Video Vixens!

Writer Marisa Meltzer, author of the new book 'Girl Power: The Nineties Revolution in Music', has curated a miniseries of contemporary women's music for Jezebel. Some good stuff. Alot of it culled from my generation/what I grew up with.

Queen

This is one of my favorite songs and definitely my favorite Queen music video. It has many elements to love; silly drag, modern dance, and a bunch of faceless miners. I was very obsessed with this video for a while and would watch it every morning for a while.

Music Video- Benny Benassi

I can't help but love this video for it's ridiculousness, but also how sexy/tough the girls actually look using the power tools. There is definitely a long history in music video (as we saw with Busby Berkeley and soundies) of just having pretty girls doing something on stage while the music is playing, but I think that this is one of my all time favorite examples of that type of video. I also like how house/dance music videos never really feature the artist since the nature of dance music is not about celebrity, it's just about people having a good time in a club or wherever, as opposed to pop music which is most often about the star persona of the artist.
